The Bonefish special is one of my favorite flies. It’s not just for bonefish. Pompano, snook, redfish will all eat this fly. I have even done some fishing for peacock bass with it and have amazing results. The bonefish special is an easy to tie as you’ll see in the video below. Great for beginners to start tying or more advanced tiers to fill a box up quickly with. Unlike traditional gotcha style flies the bonefish special is tied with congo hair. It doesn’t provide as much movement as say craft fur or natural hair which is what is mostly found on bonefish flies. The movement from this fly comes from the 2 grizzly hackles, and the micro crusher legs tied on each side of the fly. The feather provide great natural movement and the barring on both the feathers and the legs give the illusion of movement in the water. When fishing the special I like to move in with short strips. Sometimes doing faster strips to imitate a fleeing shrimp and other times a slower strip with a heavier eye to puff sand to imitate a crustacean trying to bury itself.

I will be uploading videos weekly to my youtube channel just like this one. Please give it a like and subscribe to help me make future content. If you have a pattern you would like me to do a step by step video on please message me and I will make it.
